Official rules governing all Million Dollar Breakaway competitions.
MILLION DOLLAR BREAKAWAY - OFFICIAL RULES & REGULATIONS
1. GENERAL RULES All contestants must be female and at least 18 years of age. All contestants must have qualified through an approved qualification route (VRQ or Traditional). Entry fees must be paid in full prior to competition. All WPRA breakaway roping rules apply unless specifically modified herein.
2. QUALIFICATION Contestants may qualify through the Velvet Rope Qualifier (VRQ) Division 1, VRQ Division 2, or Traditional qualification routes. VRQ qualification is based on points earned at designated VRQ events throughout the qualifying year. Traditional qualification is through designated partner events.
3. ENTRY FEES The entry fee is $3,000 per entry. Each qualified contestant may purchase up to 4 entries (max). Entry fees are non-refundable after the entry deadline.
4. FORMAT The competition consists of 12 rounds total: 10 preliminary rounds, semi-finals, and finals. Entries are randomly drawn into rounds. Each entry receives one run per round entered. The top entries by aggregate time advance to the semi-finals. The top entries from the semi-finals advance to the championship finals.
5. TIMING & PENALTIES Official times are recorded by electronic eye. A 10-second barrier penalty will be added for breaking the barrier. There is a 30-second time limit per run. No re-runs will be given except in the case of equipment malfunction verified by arena judges.
6. LIVESTOCK All livestock is provided by the Million Dollar Breakaway. No personal cattle will be used. Stock draw is random and conducted under the supervision of arena judges.
7. ARENA RULES Contestants must be mounted and ready when called. Failure to report when called will result in a no-time. Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification. All judges' decisions are final.
8. PAYOUT Prize money is distributed according to the published payout schedule. Earnings are paid within 30 days of the event conclusion. All payouts are subject to applicable taxes and withholding requirements.
9. MEDICAL An on-site medical team will be present at all times during competition. Any contestant requiring medical attention during competition may be scratched at the discretion of arena officials.
10. PROTESTS All protests must be filed in writing within 30 minutes of the completion of the contested round. A protest fee of $500 is required. Protest fees are refunded if the protest is upheld.
11. MEDIA & BROADCAST The Million Dollar Breakaway retains all broadcast and media rights. Contestants grant the MDB the right to use their name, image, and likeness for promotional purposes.
12. CODE OF CONDUCT All contestants, their families, and support personnel are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. The MDB reserves the right to remove any person from the premises for violations of the code of conduct.
13. ANIMAL WELFARE The Million Dollar Breakaway is committed to the humane treatment of all animals. All livestock handling follows PRCA animal welfare guidelines. Any contestant found to be mistreating animals will be immediately disqualified.
14. INSURANCE & LIABILITY All contestants compete at their own risk. The MDB, its sponsors, and venue operators are not liable for injuries to contestants or their animals. Contestants are encouraged to maintain their own medical and equine insurance.
15. AMENDMENTS The Million Dollar Breakaway reserves the right to amend these rules at any time. Contestants will be notified of any changes prior to competition.
